Public Works 

Responsibilities 

The Public Works and General Services Department includes the following divisions:

  • Water Treatment
  • Water Distribution
  • Waste Water
  • Streets and Storm Drains
  • Parks and General Services (including Vector Control)
  • Engineering and Administration

The Department is responsible for operation, maintenance and improvement of all publicly owned infrastructures, including:

  • Buildings and Grounds
  • Parks and Open Space
  • Streets and Sidewalks
  • Street Lights, Traffic Signals, and Signage
    • Some school zone lights are maintained by Lyon County School District
  • Storm Drain Infrastructure
  • Groundwater Conveyance System
  • Water Tanks, Pump Stations and Wells
  • Treated Water Distribution System
  • Water Treatment Plant
  • Waste Water Collection Piping and Lift Stations
  • Waste Water Treatment Plant

In addition to operation and maintenance of City owned infrastructure, the Vector Control Program is located within the Public Works and General Services umbrella.

Public Works, Engineering and Administration provides the following services to the community:

  • Civil Improvement Plan Review
  • Grading Permits
  • Encroachment Permits (PDF)
  • Public Improvement Inspection and Acceptance
  • Facility and Park Reservations
  • City Engineering Services
  • Capital Improvement Projects
  • Water Rights Dedications
