Municipal Court

Mission Statement:

The City of Fernley Municipal Court’s mission is to provide fair and impartial adjudication of alleged violations of Fernley Municipal Code such that the legal rights of individuals are safeguarded, and the public interest is protected. The Court will provide due process to defendants in an efficient, professional, and courteous manner that promotes and uphold the integrity and independence of the judiciary, thereby maximizing the community’s confidence in the court.

Legal Requirement

Nevada Revised Statues (NRS), Chapter 266.550-266.595 described the jurisdiction and operation of Municipal Courts. The Municipal Court has similar powers that are provided by the law for Justice Court, subject to the overall limited jurisdiction of misdemeanor offense. The power of the Municipal Court includes the power to charge and collect those fees authorized pursuant to NRS Chapter 5.073

Payment of Fines and Fees:

All court fines and fees are due on or before your scheduled court date. If you are unable to pay on your court date, request a payment plan. All payment plans are subject to a one-time payment plan fee of $25.00.

The courts minimum monthly payment amounts:

$0.00 - $200.00                  $50.00 per month

$201.00-$400.00                $75.00 per month

$401.00 and above             $100.00 per month

If at any time, you are unable to afford to make your payments, with the exception of restitution (monies owed to someone else). You may request to do community service work. Community Service Work is paid at $10.00 per hour worked. All work must be completed for a non-profit organization 501(3)(c).  Some examples are local food banks, churches, animal shelters, senior centers.

Court Appearance Dress Code:

Dress conservatively. You should refrain from wearing shorts, tank-tops, halter-tops or shirts that show your midriff. All hats and sunglasses must be taken off prior to entering the courtroom.
